Sam Houston State University's College of Criminal Justice is unique in the size and diversity of its faculty, which includes members specializing in criminology, law, psychology, criminal justice, sociology, history, and political science. Small class sizes enhance personal contact with professors, contributing to the popularity of the undergraduate program at SHSU since its inception in the 1960s.

The College of Criminal Justice ranks among the top programs in the nation. More than 2,000 students select Sam Houston State University each year to obtain their criminal justice degree. Some popular courses taken under this degree plan include Organized Crime, White Collar Crime, Drug Use and Abuse, Criminal Profiles, Understanding Human Behavior, Victimology, Criminal Investigation, Juvenile Delinquency, Police Systems and Practices, and Homicide.

The College of Criminal Justice currently offers three undergraduate degrees:

All degrees encourage students to pursue a broad, liberal arts education along with criminal justice courses.

The College also offers students many opportunities for field placement experience through internships  Past students have benefited from working with organizations like the F.B.I., U.S. Marshals, Houston P.D., Air Security International, and the Harris County District Attorneys Office.

Students will also have a chance to gain international perspective through its study abroad program.  Recent study abroad courses have included travel to Italy, Poland, Turkey, and Korea.
