Biography:

Dr. Longmire joined the faculty of the College of Criminal Justice in 1984 and was promoted to the rank of Full Professor in 1991. During his tenure here he has served as the Assistant Dean for Graduate Programs (1984 - 1986) and Associate Dean for Academic Administration (1986 - 1993). He teaches graduate and undergraduate classes in criminological theory, law and society, professionalism and ethics, and critical analysis of justice administration.

His academic specialties include the death penalty, public perceptions of crime, criminality, and criminal Justice, classification of offenders, and criminological theory.

Longmire is completing the “2005 Census of Publicly Funded Forensic Crime Laboratories” in collaboration with Professor Joseph Peterson, funded by the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Statistics as well as a study examining the impact of Texas' revised offender classification system on institutional violence among inmates sentenced to capital life.

In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Dr. Longmire serves as the Director of the College of Criminal Justice’s Survey Research Program where he supervises the completion of regular surveys assessing citizens’ attitudes about crime, criminality, and the administration of justice. In this capacity he has authored numerous publications and special reports that have helped inform criminal justice policy makers and legislators about key crime related issues.

Longmire was the 2003-04 Distinguished Lecturer at Eastern Kentucky University’s Department of Criminal Justice and Police Studies; the Department of Correctional and Juvenile Justice Studies; and the College of Justice & Safety.
