Thailand Study Abroad Trip

Dates: TBA             Cost: $1500+Airfare+tuition

Thailand embraces a rich diversity of cultures and traditions. With its proud history, tropical climate and renowned hospitality, the Kingdom is a never-ending source of fascination and pleasure for international visitors. Thai people are well known for their friendliness and hospitality.

The kingdom of Thailand lies in the heart of Southeast Asia, making it a natural gateway to Indochina, Myanmar, and Southern China. Its shape and geography divide into four natural regions: the mountains and forests of the North; the vast rice fields of the Central Plains; the semi-arid farm lands of the Northeast plateau; and the tropical islands and long coastline of the peninsula South.

This program will bring the group to visit and experience various Thai criminal justice facilities, including Royal Thai police head quarter, Royal Thai Police Cadets Academy, Thai Supreme Court, and the maximum security correction facility. The group will have an experience to stay in the Royal Thai Police Cadets in the academy, which is 50 minutes from Bangkok, for four days. In the academy, students will have opportunities to know and share activities with the cadets.

Students will visit the office of Thai-Rak-Thai Party, which is headed by the Prime Minister Thaksin Shinnawatra. The PM Shinnawatra received the "Outstanding Criminal Justice Alumnus Award" and the "Distinguished Alumni Award" from Sam Houston State University in 1996.

There will be lectures on the Thai criminal justice system, Thai police system, the courts, correctional system, terrorism in Thailand, and history and situations of drug trafficking in Thailand. The group will also be exposed to short classes in Thai boxing, sidearm shooting, traditional Thai dancing, as well as has a chance to try tower jumping.

Included in this package, the group will visit the Royal Palace; travel to Phuket Island in the south and experience the consequences of Tsunami; visit James Bond Island; travel to Chiangmai province in the north; witness the Golden Triangle; and floating market. Students will have one dinner on the boat sailing along Chao Phraya River, which is regarded as the bloodline of Thai people.
