Biography:

Dr. Dennis Longmire joined the faculty of the College in 1984 and has served as the Assistant Dean for Graduate Programs (1984-1986) and Associate Dean for Academic Administration (1986-1993) and is currently a member of the Faculty Senate. His academic specialties include the death penalty, public perceptions of crime, criminality, and criminal Justice, the classification of offenders, and criminological theory. He has published in numerous scholarly journals including Criminology, Justice Quarterly, Crime and Delinquency, and Criminal Justice and Behavior. Most recently, Longmire has been involved in an ongoing survey project designed to assess citizen's attitude about the Houston Police Department. He has also authored numerous publications and special reports that have helped inform criminal justice policy makers and legislators about key crime related issues. Dr. Longmire recently joined the Board of Directors of the Texas After Violence Project (www.texasafterviolence.org/) and was a Distinguished Lecturer at Eastern Kentucky University in 2003-04.
