Enforcement Management Institute of Texas POLAND With the lifting of the Iron Curtain, Eastern Europe has not been the same. It has undergone rapid, tumultuous changes, and nowhere is that more evident and profound than in Poland. It was the invasion of this country that launched the Second World War. Launch your understanding of the new Eastern Europe through this visit to Poland, and see this part of the world assimiilate into a new world order as it takes its steps into the 21st century. In August 1989, the Polish government abandoned its communist system in favor of a Western-style democracy and a free-market economy. The Polish police are still in the course of reorganization aimed at increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of their actions under new, democratic circumstances. Classes will focus on the changing aspects of police structure and management. During this program, the group will have the opportunity to tour several criminal justice facilities, including Warsaw City Headquarters, regional police stations, and a regional forensic laboratory. The group will be based at the International Specialist Police Training Center at the Police Academy in Legionowo, thirty minutes from Warsaw. There will be lectures, held at various locations, on the history of the legal system in Poland; the criminal justice system in Poland; police organization and management; police training; the courts; correctional system; crime in Poland; community policing; human rights issues; victimology; scientific approaches to criminal investigation. It includes visits to the Regional and County Police Headquarters in different cities, including the Dog Handlers and Dog Training Department in Sulkowice.
