[Researchers] [Studies]

The objective of STAFS is to conduct research that will contribute significantly to the advancement of technology in the forensic sciences.
STAFS will be a resource for:

  1. The development of research in human decomposition processes in various types of criminal deposition.
  2. The development of new technologies in the collection of data from human decomposition processes occurring in a variety of environmental settings.
  3. Documenting natural scatter of human remains due to taphonomic alterations, such as original deposition of the body, animal scavenging, fluvial environments, etc.
  4. Understanding and documenting the effects of the subtropical humid climate of southeast Texas on the decomposition process of the human body.
  5. Development of new crime-solving techniques.
  6. The establishment of a teaching facility for law enforcement. It will expand law enforcement’s competencies in utilizing forensic science in solving crimes. From entomology, crime scene investigation, skeletal remains, mass disasters, mass graves.

If you are interested in conducting research at the facility, please contact Dr. Joan Bytheway at STIAFS@SHSU.edu.
