Forensic Science Adds Ph.D.

The College of Criminal Justice recently introduced the first multi-disciplinary Ph.D. program in Forensic Science in the nation, offering a broad knowledge base for professionals or academics in the field.

The program will encompass many specialties in the field, including such areas as DNA, serology, firearms and tool marks, and trace evidence. It will prepare graduates to work in a wide variety of disciplines, including higher education, law enforcement, medical examiner's offices, correctional facilities, attorney offices and the intelligence field.

The new program also will work in conjunction with the Institute for Forensic Research, Training and Innovation, which will offer academic-industrial partnerships and train professionals in various specialties in the discipline. Together, the Department will provide collaborative, interdisciplinary and scientific-based studies to advance the future of forensic science across the nation.
