In the Beginning

In the beginning, the College of Criminal Justice started as an idea to unite the academics of a university with the practice of corrections at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. Working through the state legislature, Rep. David W. Crews solicited funding to begin the endeavor, and Dr. George Beto and SHSU President Arleigh Templeton developed a program that would lead the criminal justice field for decades to come. The history of the past continues to guide the ideas and research of the future.
